An overdue walker was reported missing in the Bealach Nam Bo area of Ben Venue shortly after 6pm on the 2nd of January.
After leaving his car at Ledard Farm, the missing man (33) from Stratchclyde, proceeded to climb Ben Venue. After reaching the summit, he became disorientated in the mist and not possessing either a map or a compass, missed the path and descended North until he could see a large body of water, which he believed to be Loch Katrine.
By now it was getting dark, and without a torch, found himself on very steep, craggy ground whereupon he became stuck. After some time, his wife reported him overdue to the Police and they in turn managed to contact him via his mobile and establish a rough position.
Due to low power on his mobile’s battery, contact was lost before the search teams could reach him. However, with the aid of the backlight of his ipod, the team was able to pinpoint his position. Due to the seriousness of his position, a technical rescue followed to raise him from very steep ground.
Cold and hungry but unhurt the Team escorted him off the hill by 22:50. 19 Team members attended.
