Central Scotland Police Control contacted the Team leader at 20:48 requesting help to find two walkers unsure of their position and unable to proceed due to the dark, making their way along the southern side of Loch Katrine on the slopes of Ben Venue.
The two casualties had cycled from the east end of Loch Katrine that morning, along the north shore cycleway, to Stronachlachar. Here, they left the bikes to return along the southern shore. There is no path here and the terrain is rough, open hillside which is difficult ground and necessarily slow going. Almost back to the Eastern end of the loch when they became benighted and could not proceed due to lack of suitable lighting.
Contact with the missing individuals was maintained by mobile phone. A rough position for the the pair was obtained by a police vehicle driving a short way along the road on the north side of Loch Katrine and observing the flash from their camera phone.
Lomond MRT ground teams were despatched along the lochside to the Bealach nam Bo area. Very soon contact was established by these teams with the aid of the flash and the individuals were given warm clothing and drinks and were then assisted off the hill. The Team were stood down at 23:26. 17 team members attended.
