Central Scotland Police contacted the team at 15.40 to report that a stalker had failed to return to meet a friend on the Comer Estate, North of Ben Lomond. The missing person, aged 47, was last seen leaving the Cailness track heading South onto the Northern slopes of Cruinn a’Bheinn at around 9.30am.
Darkness had fallen when the team met at Comer Farm and visibility was further reduced due to low-lying freezing fog. In addition to the 21 team members, 6 dogs and their handlers from the Search and Rescue Dogs Association (SARDA) and a RAF SAR helicopter from Lossiemouth were in attendance. The initial search was stood down at 3.30am on Saturday morning with no trace found of the missing person.
The search was resumed at 8am on Saturday 12 December with 25 Lomond MRT members assisted by members of Ochil’s MRT and Killin MRT. A further 5 dog teams were provided by SARDA. The missing person was located just after noon and was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor from Ochils MRT. Lomond MRT evacuated the missing person by stretcher and land rover.
