Call Out: 28th January 2010 - Ben LomondThe Team Leader received a call from Central Scotland Police Control around 12.50 to seek opinion on a report that they had received from a walker, who had just retreated from Ptarmigan Ridge, Ben Lomond, claiming that he had heard two shouts. What was shouted was unclear and the Team Leader was not prepared to commit the team without further information. Police Control agreed to send someone to interview the walker.

CSP then got back to in contact at 14.58 to say that there was no further information regarding the shouts on Ptarmigan but that they had interviewed a number of groups who had just come off the main tourist path up the Ben and had expressed concern over a group of ‘lads who were in trainers and not prepared for the wintry conditions’! They had been advised not to continue but this was ignored. It was unclear whether this group comprised of three or five young men and whether they were connected with the ‘shouts’ on Ptarmigan.

Given this situation, the Police requested Lomond MRT’s help and the Call-Out text was sent at 15.11. The first MR group was directed up the main tourist path and not long after, the group radioed in to say that they had encountered a group of four young men fitting the description of those reported, dressed in jeans and trainers! This group were heading down to Rowardennan. Once down, the group were spoken to by the Police and they were satisfied that this was the group being sought. Whilst the shouts remained unexplained, since all the remaining vehicles in the car park had been accounted for, the Police were happy that the incident had been resolved. The Stand-Down text was sent at 16.52, with 14 team members on scene or en route.
